Shan: Wayne has given heart, soul for Derbys

-

DERBYSHIRE Falcons captain Shan Masood paid tribute to team-mate Wayne Madsen after the county made it five wins on the trot in The Vitality Blast on Tuesday night.

Brilliant batting from Madsen and Masood kept the Falcons on course for the quarter-finals with a sixwicket home victory over Northamptonshire Steelbacks.

Victory moved the Falcons to one point behind Group North leaders Lancashire Lightning, who visit the Incora County Ground tomorrow night (7pm). Before then, the Falcons travel to face the Notts Outlaws at Trent Bridge tonight (6.30pm).

Masood said: “We finished the powerplay off strongly and then Wayne Madsen played an incredible knock, he made my job easier.

“I didn’t have to do anything silly or extraordinary, I just had to make sure I was at the other end, get the odd boundary away and give him support and the strike.

“He put them under the pump and by the 10th and 11th over we were down to chasing eight or seven an over with eight wickets to go, which is always ideal.

“I think in terms of the chase we never put ourselves under pressure and that was close to a perfect performance chasing.

“We are lucky Wayne Madsen has played his cricket for Derbyshire and given his heart and soul for Derbyshire and no matter what I say about him, it can never be enough.”

Tuesday night’s result meant the Falcons have recorded five consecutive wins in T20 cricket for the first time. Their winning run stretches to six when you include the LV= County Championship Division Two victory against leaders Middlesex at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield.
