Chairboys away test first for Brewers before the Rams visit in December

ALBION DRAWN AWAY AGAINST ROCHDALE IN CARABAO CUP FIRST ROUND

-

BURTON Albion will travel to face last season’s League One play-off finalists Wycombe Wanderers in their opening game of the 2022-23 campaign.

The Brewers finished their 202122 League One season against the Chairboys, losing 2-1 at the Pirelli Stadium on April 30, so it will be a quick reunion for the teams.

Another reunion many Brewers fans will be looking forward to is when they face Derby County, relegated from the Championship.

There have been four League meetings between the two clubs so far, all in the Championship, and the Brewers have won both at the Pirelli Stadium.

The last time was in April 2018 when goals from Liam Boyce, Luke Murphy and Lucas Akins secured a 3-1 home win against the Rams, who replied through David Nugent but were denied another goal when Stephen Bywater saved Matej Vydra’s late penalty.

In the first competitive meeting between the two sides in August

2016, Jackson Irvine scored the only goal in a memorable 1-0 home win for the Brewers.

On both occasions Nigel Clough, the former Rams manager, was in charge of Albion.

Now Brewers supporters will be hoping for more of the same when the teams meet at the Pirelli on Saturday, December 10, with the reverse fixture at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday, April 22.

After facing the Chairboys on the opening day, the Brewers’ first home game will be against Bristol Rovers on Saturday, August 6. The Pirates were promoted from League Two, finishing third.

An away trip to Accrington Stanley follows on Saturday, August 13, before back-to-back home fixtures against Ipswich Town on Tuesday, August 16, and a Staffordshire derby with Port Vale, promoted through the League Two play-offs, on Saturday, August 20.

The first 30 days of the League campaign is rounded of by a trip to Cambridge United on Saturday, August 27.

Lincoln City will visit the Pirelli on Boxing Day, while the Brewers will hit the road on New Year’s Day with a trip to Morecambe.

On Good Friday (April 7), the Brewers are at home to Barnsley, relegated from the Championship, before travelling to face Charlton Athletic on Easter Monday (April 10).

MK Dons will visit the Pirelli on Saturday, May 6 for the Brewers’

final game of the League One campaign.

The Brewers will travel to face Sky Bet League Two side Rochdale in the Carabao Cup first round.

The game will be played at Rochdale’s Crown Oil Arena in the week commencing August 8, with a place in the second round against potential Premier League opposition at stake.

It will be the Brewers’ first visit to Rochdale since the 2020-21 season, when Albion claimed a 2-0 win over 10-man Dale thanks to goals from Akins and Kane Hemmings.

The Brewers’ Papa Johns Trophy group has also been confirmed with the addition of Leicester City Under21s to Northern Group H.

The Brewers will play the Foxes at the Pirelli Stadium at a date to be confirmed, with a further home and away fixture against Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City to be played.

Fixture dates, ticket details and kick-off times will be confirmed in due course.
