Busy city route to close for roadworks

-

A BUSY route into Derby city centre is to undergo three weeks of daytime closures.

Uttoxeter New Road will be shut between Uttoxeter Old Road and Drewry Court as Derby City Council resurfacing work is carried out from early next month.

The well-used route will be shut on weekdays between 9.30am and 3.30pm from Monday, July 4. The work, which will include replacement of the road surface and road markings, is expected to be completed by Friday, July 22.

A diversion route will be in place for affected motorists via Uttoxeter Old Road, Ashbourne Road, Friar Gate, Agard Street,

Ford Street, and Stafford Street. Lorries will be directed to use the A38 to avoid the weight restriction on Uttoxeter Old Road.

The city council has confirmed the work will be completed by Thomas Bow Ltd on its behalf. Part of a letter sent to directly affected local residents reads: “We appreciate this work is disruptive and journeys could be delayed. Our main aim is to get the work completed as quickly and safely as possible.

“We will do our best to make sure all properties directly affected by the work can be accessed with minimum disruption. We will not be able to meet everyone’s personal requirements, so you may experience some delays in gaining access, at certain points of construction. Please be patient. There will be traffic marshals to direct traffic and assist you. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

“We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding and hope that you agree this improvement work is long overdue and is very much needed for businesses, residents and the travelling public.”

No weekend work is planned, but may be a possibility. Refuse collections will be as normal.
