Roos heading for Aberdeen after contract expires
KEEPER Kelle Roos will be leaving Derby County when his contract expires at the end of the month and joining Aberdeen.
Roos is one of many players out of contract on June 30 and the Rams are now left without a senior goalkeeper after Ryan Allsop left for Cardiff City earlier this month.
Former Rams boss Wayne Rooney, who quit on Friday evening, used Roos sparingly last season and preferred Allsop.
Roos signed for Derby in 2014, arriving from Nuneaton Town, but he had to wait until 2019 for his debut, with Frank Lampard giving him a first League start after dropping Scott Carson.
Roos played in the 2019 Championship play-off final but made a mistake in the build-up to John McGinn’s goal, with Aston Villa going on to win 2-1 at Wembley.
“Derby County would like to wish Kelle every success at Aberdeen and in the future, as well as thanking him for his efforts throughout his time with the club,” a Rams statement said.
Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin said: “Kelle brings with him a wealth of experience and he will help to enhance the goalkeeping team we have at the club.
“It’s vital we add quality to the squad this season so we’ve taken the time to identify the correct players with the attributes we feel will have a positive impact.
“Having played a significant number of games in the English Championship, Kelle ticks all those boxes for us.
“He is a very confident character and I’m sure he will be a popular addition to the dressing room.”
Roos made 89 appearances for the Rams, 74 of them coming in the Championship.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are yet to agree a fee with the Rams for talented winger Malcolm Ebiowei.
National reports yesterday morning suggested that Palace had struck a deal but the Derby Telegraph understands the offer from the Premier League side has fallen well short of the Rams’ expectations.
Derby have offered Ebiowei a new contract and are entitled to compensation, given the player is under 24.
It is understood that Palace are still haggling over a fee but they will have to significantly up their offer if they are to avoid it being determined by a tribunal. Ebiowei has already signed a five-year deal with Palace who beat off competition to land the winger, who has been linked with Manchester United and Spurs.
Negotiations are ongoing for the former Rangers and Arsenal academy player who broke into the side under Rooney last season.
He made 17 appearances and scored his first senior goal in a win over Blackpool towards the end of the season.
The 18-year-old signed for Derby on a one-year contract last summer and his performances for the first team drew plenty of praise from Rooney and the fans, quickly became a crowd favourite.
