Here’s when school’s out for summer

THE summer break for most schools in Derbyshire is just over three weeks away.

Term officially ends on Friday, July 22, but some schools may finish slightly earlier if they have decided to use the last day or so for staff training, so it is worth doublechecking with your child’s school before you book that much-needed holiday.

Landau Forte College in Derby operates a five-term year and as a result the summer break starts on July 15. Also, some independent schools such as Derby High School, Derby Grammar School and Repton School break up much earlier – Repton on July 2 and the other two on July 8.

The official return date for most schools is Thursday, September 1, but it is likely that the actual return for pupils may be a day or two later if a school decides to hold staff training days. So again, it is worth doublechecking with your child’s school before you send them back.

Some schools have staggered returns, especially for the new starters in year seven. While most year groups return to Landau Forte College on Tuesday, August 30 (the day after the August bank holiday), year seven pupils return on September 1 and year 12 students on September 8.

The independent schools have longer holidays of about eight weeks but return at a roughly similar time to state schools.

Repton pupils are back on August 31, Derby High on September 1 and Derby Grammar School on September 2 - you should check there are no staff training days or induction days that will vary this.
