Glamping domes proposed for countryside site would ‘help local economy’
“SUBTLE” and “discreet” glamping “domes” could be built in the Derbyshire countryside in a bid to boost tourism.
Plans, submitted by Georgina Mosley, would see four glamping pods – in the shape of small domes – constructed on land off Bent Lane, north of Darley Dale, near Matlock.
Documents written by Glampitect, forming part of the application to Derbyshire Dales District Council, say domes would be built off-site by
It says the site is a mile north of the main route through Darley Dale and would “allow guests to use sustainable transport methods during their stay to visit the local shops and restaurants either by foot or by bicycle”.
The report says: “By introducing a new accommodation option to the area, it is believed the guests will help the local economy by visiting the business in the surrounding towns as well as Darley Dale. With approximately 16 people staying at the site at any one time, this will benefit the local small business as the site operator intends on promoting said business to guests on their arrival.”
The report says the domes will have a “high quality” design and will be green on the outside in a bid to be less visible from the surrounding area. It says that no concrete will be required and the glamping domes will not be a permanent fixture and can be removed in the future, with only “minimal” groundwork required to create a level platform and dome footings. All trees and hedges on the site would be retained.
If the site is approved, there would be four car parking spaces and a permeable track would be built to the domes from Bent Lane. The glamping domes would be less than four metres tall and seven metres wide and are said to be designed to be as energy efficient as possible.
