County’s big annual clean-up means some roads will be closed

-

SEVERAL key roads across Derbyshire will be fully or partially closed over the coming months as they receive their annual clean.

Derbyshire County Council has released the list of roads affected, with the work carried out every year to keep the carriageways tidy.

The list includes the A6, A38, A52, A61 and others over a six-week programme of works. The varying nature of the works affects whether a road will be closed in its entirety or just some lanes shut.

The work will include cutting the grass on the central reservations and at the sides of the roads, picking up litter, emptying gullies and drains, fixing potholes, and any other bits of maintenance work that need carrying out. It will begin on Sunday, July 17 and end on Sunday, August 28. The County Council cabinet member for highways assets and transport, Councillor Kewal Singh Athwal, said: “By bringing together different teams from the county council and our district and borough partners to do this vital work, we can be more efficient and not impact the travelling public too much.

“We don’t start this work until July so that we are kinder to nature by letting the grass grow a bit longer so that some native species are given longer to flower or seed. Most of the dual carriageways will only have lane closures, but we will need to fully close some of them to enable the work to be carried out safely so I’d like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.” Planned closures:
