Appeal for old photos ahead of family fun day

-

FAMILIES in Derby will be able to enjoy a range of free fun-filled activities in the heart of Derby city centre next weekend.

Dance performances, workshops and live music are just some of the events on offer in St Peter’s Quarter and Derby Cathedral Quarter on Saturday, July 16.

The events are being organised by the St Peters Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) and aim to promote what the local area has to offer for families.

Helen Wathall, chair of the St Peters Quarter Board and managing director of G Wathall & Son in Macklin Street, said: “Running live entertainment is a key part of the BID’s objectives to bring an animated and vibrant feel to the BID area.

“Organising these family fun events continues to be an important part of our work to promote the area and improve the visitor experience here.”

The event starts at The Spot in Derby from 11am with a solo performance, followed by 50s rock and roll band, Ricky and the Retros, before Godfreys Grit ‘N’ Soul Band plays its set of 60s Tamla Motown, soul and pop.

The day will be rounded off by Ruse Springsteen and the D E Street Band, a Derbyshire-based, female-fronted tribute act.

Also taking place on July 16 is a party to celebrate the history of

Sadler Gate, organised by the Derby Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District.

As part of the occasion, the BID is appealing for photographs of Sadler Gate in days gone by, which will be displayed in a shop window at the event.

The ‘Everything Sadler Gate’ event will feature DJs, music, food and drink, face painting and dancing, with historical tours being run in the afternoon by Richard Felix.

If the event goes well, there are hopes that it could be run every year.

Martin Langsdale, Chair of the Cathedral Quarter BID, said: “The BID wanted to celebrate Sadler Gate and create an event that welcomes visitors to the area.

“No doubt, people will love seeing all the old photographs displayed on Sadler Gate and will enjoy the bustling party atmosphere. Everyone is welcome and we would love to create a fun day out.”

Copies of your photographs can be sent to the Cathedral Quarter BID team at enquiries@ derbycathedralquarter.co.uk, with a selection displayed on the day.
