Mum left terrified by young knifeman at her front door

-

A 23-YEAR-OLD Derbyshire man was caught with a knife after becoming involved in an argument “which was absolutely nothing to do” with him.

Derby Crown Court heard how Kyle Trayler had the weapon outside the front door of a woman who felt “scared for her safety and that of her children”. Earlier that day he had sent the same victim a Snapchat message threatening to “hammer” her boyfriend, who was in dispute with one of his friends.

Handing Trayler a 15-month jail term, suspended for two years, Judge Nirmal Shant QC said: “You involved yourself in an incident that was absolutely nothing to do with you. You need not to have got involved but you did.”

Catherine Picardo, prosecuting, said all of the offences took place on April 17, 2021. She said the victim had gone to school with both Trayler and his co-defendant, Cameron Harris, and that she had become aware of “some sort of argument” between them and her then partner. The prosecutor said it was over a car seat and a push chair which one of the parties had left in a car which had been seized by the police.

Miss Picardo said: “At around 3.30pm the same day (the victim) received a Snapchat message which read ‘I know we are mates and have known each other for years but he (the then partner) has pushed it too much now, don’t think for one second I won’t come to your house and hammer (him)’. She read the message and let her partner know and she then received a message from this defendant’s partner saying there was going to be a fight between all three males in Ripley. At around 10.30pm this defendant was outside her front door and a moment later he was moving away towards a car park.

“She said she felt scared for her own safety and that of her children.”

Miss Picardo said the police became involved and that a sergeant saw Trayler with a knife which was later found outside a pub. The defendant, of Hardwick Street, Tibshelf, pleaded guilty to possession of bladed article and sending a malicious communication. He has five convictions for 11 offences.

Harris, 23, of Mansfield Terrace, Alfreton, was dealt with at a previous hearing for his involvement in the incident, which did not involve a knife charge, and was handed a six month sentence, suspended for two years.

Emma Coverley, of Trayler, said: “It was an incident that had nothing to do with him, it was between Mr Harris and (the third male), but Mr Trayler became involved and he accepts he was in possession of a bladed article.”

As part of the sentence, Trayler must attend 12 rehabilitation sessions with the probation service and carry out 50 hours of unpaid work. He must also attend a 31-day programme and must not to got to Charles Street, in Leabrooks.
