APARTMENT RETAINS MANY OF CHAPEL’S STUNNING FEATURES

HOMEHUNTERS with deep enough pockets can now own a piece of Peak District history dating back to the reign of Queen Victoria.

The Old Methodist Church on Bank Road, in Matlock, has been transformed into four apartments offering up two and four-bedroom accommodation.

One of the properties has now been put on the market and could be yours for between £425,000 and £450,000 but the price only tells a small part of the story.

The apartment has been stunningly decorated and designed around historic features kept from the original church. Although the current building dates back to 1865, a church has stood on the same site since 1838, but the original building

was rebuilt by John Wildgoose, opening for services on February 20, 1866. It remained a Methodist Church until 2014 when it was sold off and transformed into the apartments you can see today. The apartment up for sale is spread over two floors and offers the prospective new owner four bedrooms, two bathrooms and two reception rooms.

But the main selling point of this property is the beautiful features kept from the building’s previous incarnation as a church.

A number of the rooms, both upstairs and downstairs, have windows but to describe them as just that doesn’t do them justice at all.

The developer has kept the incredible stained glass in some of them and the amazingly ornate decorations in others, adding a lot of character to the apartment.

One of the hallways also features a beautiful circle window at the top of the room allowing light to enter and fall upon the rest of the space from the ceiling down. The interior of the apartment works very well, although the bathroom looks a bit small, it is the character of the building and the features that have been left in place that really makes it a stunning property.
