A SERIOUS crash between a car and lorry on the A50 has left a boy fighting for his life in hospital.

Derbyshire police have confirmed that two people were badly injured during the collision close to the eastbound junction for the A511 at Foston on Thursday afternoon.

The young boy, who was a passenger in the blue Ford Focus Titanium car, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital by air ambulance where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Focus, a 62-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains for treatment. The driver of the large goods vehicle was uninjured in the crash.

As a result of the collision, which happened at around 4.30pm, the road was closed from late afternoon to late at night. It had reopened by midnight.

Police officers from Derbyshire police’s collision investigation team were deployed to the scene prior to the road reopening to carry out their enquiries into how the incident occurred.

While investigation work was being carried out, National Highways were turning vehicles at the back of the queue of traffic around and allowing them to leave the carriageway.

The westbound side of the A50 was also closed for several hours following the incident between the A516 and the A511 (Hatton) to allow the air ambulance to land and take off from the scene.

Derbyshire police have released the following statement yesterday: “We’re appealing for information after a collision between a lorry and car on the A50 yesterday afternoon.
