FAITH FILES

-

A FEW weeks ago, we helped prepare our niece’s wedding in Ireland. It was a small wedding by Irish standards, held outdoors. Although well planned, we couldn’t help wondering, would there be enough refreshments, and we hoped and prayed for dry weather.

I was reminded of the Bible Story (John 2 Verse 1 – 12) about the Wedding at Cana, where Jesus, his family and disciples were guests. Mary, the Mother of Jesus, told him the wine had run out, but Jesus said his time hadn’t come. Mary felt sure He could help, so told the servants to listen and obey Him.

Later He performed His first miracle, by turning water into wine. For the first time He revealed His glory on earth and the disciples began to believe in Him.

Mary had to learn to wait patiently and not expect Jesus to immediately do as she asked.

She knew she couldn’t make Him, any more than we can make Him answer our prayers.

I wonder how the servants felt, did they think Jesus crazy asking them to fill pitchers with water? Would they be sacked for bringing the master of ceremonies water to taste?

The MC thought it was the best wine he’d ever tasted! It didn’t make sense, but sometimes we have to do things that don’t make sense. And if we have faith, then we may see a miracle.

At the wedding in Cana, the ordinary became extraordinary because the water was blessed by God.

Real faith is trusting in God for who He is, not for what He can do. When a miracle does happen, it strengthens our faith.

In case you’re wondering, we had sufficient refreshments for all with plenty to spare, and the weather was dry!
