Man remains unconscious after assault
A MAN who suffered serious head injuries during an assault in Derby city centre last week remained unconscious in hospital yesterday.
The injured man, described by police as “heavy-set” and “in his 40s”, was found at around 12.20am on Thursday, July 14, in Green Lane.
Police have since launched an appeal for information. In a statement issued on Saturday night, a Derbyshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “Officers are appealing for the public’s help after a man was left with serious injuries after an assault in Derby. Officers found the man in Green Lane, Derby, at around 12.20am on Thursday, July 14, with serious injuries to his face and head.
“The victim, a heavy-set man in his 40s, with curly hair, and who was wearing a Back To The Future T-shirt, jeans and brown shoes, remains unconscious in hospital with serious injuries.
“Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who recognises the description of the victim.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Derbyshire police using any of the methods, including reference 22000404737.”
A resident called Dale, who lives on Green Lane but did not wish to give his surname, said news of the assault had surprised him.
He said: “I didn’t know anything about it until just now. You never see anything that violent around here, so that’s a surprise to me for sure. It’s quietened down a lot around here in the last year and a half. The police have got a grip on things, and since Covid it’s calmed down a lot.”
Another resident of Green Lane, who did not wish to give her name, spoke to the Derby Telegraph over her garden fence. She said: “We don’t normally get that sort of thing around here. I hope the guy who’s been attacked is OK. It used to be quite bad on here, from what I’ve been told.
“I’ve only lived here just over a year, but I’ve not known anything like that while I’ve been here.”
