Woman beater ‘behaved like an animal’

JEALOUS MAN’S ‘TERRIFYING ATTACK’ IN VICTIM’S HOME

A JEALOUS woman beater subjected his partner to a savage attack during a rampage in her own Derby home.

Derby Crown Court heard how during it, Kyle Woodward bit her head, punched her in the face and smashed a framed picture over her skull.

The 27-year-old father-of-four also grabbed items of sentimental value which belonged to the victim’s mother and damaged them.

And in a victim impact statement the woman, who attended court over a link to see her ex sent to prison, told how she is now frightened to form a new relationship.

Jailing Woodward for 18 months, Judge Robert Egbuna said: “(Your victim) described you as behaving like an animal, and a better description she could not have chosen. You came back from a public house to her home, and through a sense of jealousy you displayed signs of someone who feels he can possess a woman and treat them like your own chattel.

“This must have been an absolutely terrifying ordeal for her, you completely lost control. You pushed her on a chair and punched her with both fists and it is clear from the photographs of the injuries I have seen she was visibly distressed when they were taken.

“You then picked up items of sentimental value to her which belonged to her mother and proceeded to damage them, and that must have caused her significant distress.

“But you did not leave it at that, because when you finally went to leave the premises, you picked up a picture and smashed it over her head.

“If you appear before the courts again the sentences are only going to get longer and longer and the courts will have to consider whether you are a danger to women in a relationship.”

Andy Peet, prosecuting, said Woodward and the victim had been in a relationship since the spring of 2020, and after drinking in a local pub on March 15 this year, the couple ended up back at her address, off Osmaston Road.

The prosecutor said Woodward’s “demeanour changed and he started to demonstrate baseless jealously which manifested itself in aggression”.

Mr Peet said: “He threw her clothing onto the floor and tried to pull a TV off a wall bracket, but unable to do so he started to punch it. When she tried to flee the house he pulled her to the floor and bit her to the head.

“He pushed her into a chair and started to punch her with both fists.”

Mr Peet said Woodward then saw the items and said “this is your mother’s stuff” which he smashed and damaged.

He said: “During the assault she was screaming at the defendant to stop and while he was rampaging through the house she was screaming at the top of her voice. He did then stop and apologised but, as he was leaving, smashed a framed photograph over her head.”

The prosecutor said photographs of the damage showed what he described as “someone running amok in someone else’s property”.

Woodward, of Bramerton Road, Bilborough, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage.

He has a previous conviction for assaulting a former partner among the 12 he has amassed over the past 12 years.

In her victim impact statement the woman told how what the defendant did to her was “behaving like an animal and not how a human being would behave”. Denney Lau, mitigating, said his client has children aged one, five, six and nine and that being in custody away from them has “had a bad effect” on Woodward. He said: “He has stable accommodation and a stable job upon his release. “His father has a painting and decorating business and he will be able to have a job with his father and that will enable him to move forward.” As well as the jail sentence, Judge Egbuna handed Woodward a fiveyear restraining order to not contact the woman or go to her street.

This must have been an absolutely terrifying ordeal for her, you completely lost control.
