Supernatural powers behind claims?

-

MY oh my! It would appear that Messrs Fletcher (“No police force would bring down party leader” and Hiley (“Investigation was a complete whitewash”) have supernatural powers (Letters, July 13.

They seem to KNOW that Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner were guilty of partying during lockdown but have been let off by Durham’s police force.

I wonder were these gentlemen actually there? I somehow think that’s doubtful as both correspondents’ accounts have pizza as the fare on offer when curry was on the table!

Strange that – and on reflection I must have missed the letters from these two chaps raging about the same police force letting off Dominic Cummings after his Barnard Castle ‘eye test’ drive.

Any one would think that political bias is driving their bitter disappointment at the lack of prosecution!

Has it not occurred to Messrs Fletcher and Hiley that seasoned and experienced politicians would never have put their careers on the line by threatening to resign if there was the remotest chance of their being found guilty.

Perhaps it might be appropriate at this juncture to mention the 11 occasions when Johnson attended functions during lockdown, at which other people received fines but the Metropolitan Police saw fit to exonerate the Prime Minister.

The so-called Durham curry fest was nothing but a disgraceful attempt by the right-wing national press to smear Labour in retaliation for the exposure of Johnson’s party-going in Downing Street – a fact that was obvious from the start given the source of the story.
