DUNSTALL slipped behind in the Derbyshire County League Division One promotion race when they were undone by leaders Cutthorpe on Sunday.

Second-placed Rolleston had already played and won on Saturday and a win for Dunstall could have opened up the race.

But they suffered a below-par batting performance in a raininterrupted game and were beaten by seven wickets after being put in.

They lost wickets regularly while Jamie Benstead stood firm and the score reached 98-5. He was seventh out, for 36, and the innings ended at 140, Liam Sadler taking 4-28.

Rain reduced Cutthorpe’s target to 119 from 38 overs but they needed only 20.5 of those to claim victory after a 71-run opening stand by Ben Kingham (48) and Sadler (32).

It will have been scant consolation to Benstead that he took all three wickets to fall.

Rolleston were comfortable winners against Wirksworth & Middleton after overcoming a sticky start, slipping to 58-4.

Luke Jenkinson and Daryn Smit steadied the ship with a stand of 93 and though Smit was out for 32, Jenkinson went on to 89 from 83 balls, with nine fours and two sixes and Richard Green weighed in with 41 as they were bowled out for 259 with one ball of the 50 overs unused.

Three early wickets for Alex Brown (3-21) set Wirksworth’s chase back, then Smit took 4-43 and the innings ended for 192.

Rolleston were back in action the next day in the Marston’s 61 Deep Trophy quarter-final, Gareth Marshall (67) and Louis Burrows (69) firing them to 270-8 at home to Sawley.

Smit took 3-25 as Sawley’s reply reached only 188 all out.

In a battle at the wrong end of Division One, Clifton cruised to a seven-wicket win over bottom club Elvaston, who were dismissed for 197, Jack Blaver making 46 and Joel Muir 42 not out.

For Clifton, Mohsin Ali made 50 and an unbroken stand of 90 between Mehran Ibrahim (81 not out) and Harry Moore (33 not out) saw Clifton home.

Alexander Eyre hit a brilliant 171 not out for Morton Colliery as they scored 300-4 away to Duffield for a 77-run win.

Eyre and Matt Haw (60) put on 162 for the second wicket.

Tim Williscroft scored 89 in reply but Duffield could not get close.

Sawley’s 252-5, in which Tom Beresford scored 72 and James Lawton 59, was 48 too many for South Wingfield, although a second-wicket partnership of 103 between Kyle Mitchell (47) and Richard Fenn (53) initially gave them hope.

Chesterfield squeezed past Ilkeston Rutland at Queen’s Park after being kept to a modest 186 all out, in which Harry Wilmott made 69.

Yannick Leonard’s fine spell of 6-19 in 11.4 overs saw Ilkeston fall 12 runs short.
