AUCTIONEERS ON THE TELLY

HANSONS GET THEIR OWN SHOW ...AND THERE’S STILL A CHANCE FOR YOU TO GET IN ON THE ACT

- By JILL GALLONE

A NEW TV show about the magic of auction life is being filmed this summer at Hansons Auctioneers – and you could take part.

A crew from television production company Curve Media – the makers of Salvage Hunters – is busy capturing the excitement of everyday life at the Derbyshirebased auction firm for an eightpart series due to be aired this autumn.

Programme makers are following the journey of antiques and collectables from the moment they come through the saleroom door for valuation until the day they go under the hammer – talking to sellers and buyers along the way.

Filming is well under way at the firm’s headquarters in Etwall. The Curve crew has also visited Bishton Hall, the firm’s Staffordshire saleroom – and there’s still time to take part in the show.

Researchers are on the lookout for curious finds and are inviting people with interesting heirlooms, fascinating antiques or quirky collectables to come forward if they’re interested in selling at auction with Hansons.

Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “If you’d like to play your part in the show, we would love to hear from you. If you have a treasure at home that might fascinate the viewing public, and don’t mind being on TV, do get in touch. Some fantastic discoveries have already been filmed but there’s room for more.

“It’s an exciting time for Hansons. A camera crew has been based at our group headquarters in Etwall, near Derby, for several weeks and whenever something exciting is consigned Curve are keen to get involved. They’ve been working hard to capture the excitement we all

feel when something extra special walks through the door – and excels under the hammer. “If this new TV show is a hit, it could be the first of many. I certainly hope so. I like to think Hansons helps to put Derbyshire and Staffordshire on the map. I’m really looking forward to viewers getting to know some of the staff and valuers who make life tick at Hansons. Most live in Derbyshire or neighbouring Staffordshire and many will be familiar faces to people who use our services.

“For me, seeing Hansons gain a TV show of its own is deeply rewarding – especially as 2022 marks 20 years since my first television breakthrough. Back in 2002, at the age of 24, I was invited to appear on BBC Bargain Hunt. In those early days I was holding sales in Mackworth, near Derby, before opening my first auction centre in Etwall in 2005. How things have changed since then. Hansons’ Etwall HQ now has sister auction centres in London, Oxfordshire and Staffordshire.

“Regular TV work has become part and parcel of life for me. I film for BBC Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip and this year I’ve enjoyed the challenge of live TV as a guest on Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch.

“However, this new show is something very different. It offers a behind-the-scenes look at what life is all about at Hansons. I hope the viewing public will love it.”

If you have an interesting potential auction item and are happy to appear on the new TV show, please email details of the object by August 15 at the latest to auctions@curvemedia.com or charles@hansonsauctioneers.co.uk. Alternatively, call 0203 179 0094.

To take part in the filming you must be over 18 and a UK resident.
