Beauty salon with feathered walls is already flying high

VENTURE HAS BECOME AN INSTANT HIT ON SOCIAL MEDIA

DERBY, like many towns and cities, has its fair share of beauty salons – but a new one has opened right in the heart of the city centre that offers clients something a little different.

PG Aesthetics and Academy welcomed its first customers on Saturday, July 16, as part of their grand opening and introduced them to the unique features of the salon.

Owner Poppy Griffiths, 24, said: “We’ve got so many spots for selfies, we’ve feathered walls in, we’ve got telephone boxes, we’ve got swings in.”

She has centred her new business around social media, encouraging clients to take that all-important selfie and tag the salon in their posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Customers who venture into PG Aesthetics and Academy will be able to get their hair done, have filler or botox, and have their teeth whitened and their lashes worked on.

But the business is so much more than that as it doubles as an academy.

Miss Griffiths is training to be a teacher to train the next generation of beauticians.

She said: “I used to work from home, but this is why I had to expand, my diary is getting booked up so quickly now and I’ve had a child.

“I needed somewhere bigger to work from and I needed the space. Obviously, I’m doing my degree in teaching so it means I can teach from it as well.”

While the salon, from the outside, might look a bit quirky, Miss Griffiths says that’s all come from her own personality.

“I’m a very quirky person so all of it is from my personality,” she said. “I did a storyboard and I wanted it to be completely different and I wanted to bring a salon that Derby does not have.

“So I had to think this is what I want, something really quirky, because on social media it’s got to be different, it’s got to be eye-catching.”

Miss Griffiths says the unique nature of the business is already paying off, with clients loving the atmosphere.

“They’ve walked in and they’re like ‘wow, this isn’t what we thought it was going to be,’” she added.

“That makes me feel so happy because I’m a person who’s very big on women’s empowerment, and I love that feeling that women feel very welcomed and relaxed when they come in.”

PG Aesthetics and Academy is on The Wardwick in Derby city centre and is open for new clients.
