Several injured as car crashes through pub terrace and into door
A PUB has reopened after five people were left needing hospital treatment when a car smashed into the back of the building.
Drinkers at The Batch House in Sheffield Road, Chesterfield, were left shocked when the vehicle left the road and collided with the rear door on Friday night.
It sparked a major response from the emergency services with several police cars, ambulances and the air ambulance attending the scene just after 8.30pm. One person was taken away after suffering serious injuries.
Derbyshire police yesterday issued a statement which said: “Two people remain in hospital, and one has now been discharged, having suffered serious injuries. Three other people suffered minor injuries which they have received treatment for.”
The car, a silver Volkswagen Polo, crashed into a group of people sitting outside The Batch House on a seating terrace before it smashed into the door used by customers to access the terrace.
The Batch House is located on The Glass Yard development across the road from Chesterfield FC’s Technique Stadium.
The door involved in the collision remains boarded up and markings on the road, pavement and seated terrace, left by Derbyshire police’s collision investigation unit, show the path the car is believed to have taken.
The pub was closed on Saturday, but reopened on Sunday, less than 48 hours after the incident. A statement posted on the venue’s Facebook page said the pub had opened on Sunday but closed earlier than usual at 7pm “as we wanted to commend all the team for all their efforts and the way they professionally handled the awful incident that happened. So we spent the evening together and treated the team to food and drinks. Together we stand!
“We’ve been in touch with our guests who were injured and we wish them a speedy recovery.”
