DERBY County head coach Paul Warne says he would like to be in the conversation over a permanent move for Ebou Adams should the opportunity arise this summer.

Adams has impressed since signing on loan from Cardiff City before deadline day and turned in another excellent performance in Tuesday’s 3-0 win away against Exeter City.

Adams is on loan until the end of the season at Pride Park Stadium but some Rams fans have already expressed a wish to see him move to the club on a permanent basis after some impressive displays.

The midfielder does have a year left on his contract at Cardiff and, when asked whether he would be interested in making Adams’ move long-term, Warne said: “I always think that with all my loans.

“I had Dan Barlaser on loan at my previous club (Rotherham United) from Newcastle and then signed him. Dan was on loan at Accrington Stanley and was not going to get into the first team at Newcastle. He wanted to sharpen his teeth in a first-team environment.

“In fairness to Ebou, he was ledge in League Two. He was in the team of the year and through a freak injury has not had the game time he wanted.

“He is very much a Cardiff player and will back himself to fight for a place in their team.

“However, the weirdest thing is, while you want him to be great, if he is outstanding then everybody else sees it too.

“If he plays well for us and is part of a promotion season, then he won’t be a secret. Wanting to keep players and making it happen are two different things, but I would like to be in that conversation.

“He is an ideal fit for us but there is a long way to go before those decisions are made.”
