IT is fair to say that Corey BlackettTaylor’s start to life with Derby County has been understated – but that has not been through his own making.

A niggling hamstring strain not long after his arrival, combined with the team’s good form, meant he has been largely restricted to only a handful of appearances, which no doubt will have been a source of frustration.

But there was enough evidence during his cameo against Northampton Town last Saturday to suggest that he is ready to leave his mark on a team who are chasing a return to the Championship.

That was a view shared by a fan on social media over the weekend, when he reposted a video of some of the goals Blackett-Taylor scored for Charlton Athletic earlier this season before the Rams spent £300,000 to sign him in January.

There were some excellent reminders of his qualities, too, particularly the goal against Wycombe Wanderers, where he drove inside two defenders before arrowing a shot beyond the goalkeeper.

It made you realise what a potent force he was for Charlton, where he was widely regarded as one of the best wingers in the division, given the amount of goals and assists he registered in a mediocre team.

The Rams would no doubt love the same kind of impact.

They are looking set to move to a back four after Sonny Bradley’s suspension and Craig Forsyth’s injury and it could mean head coach Paul Warne opts for a front three for the next three games at least.

That could present a perfect opportunity to unleash the former Aston Villa winger for the games ahead, in which the Rams will need pace, ingenuity and skill.

The Rams’ head coach certainly seemed to be encouraged by what he saw against Northampton and when asked whether it could be time for Blackett-Taylor to step up, Warne said somebody had to.

Blackett-Taylor certainly has the ability, now he’s got to show it.

DERBY County striker Dajaune Brown continued his excellent form for Gateshead as he scored twice in a

7-1 thrashing of Hartlepool United in the National League on Tuesday night.

The Heed were too slick and quick for an awful Pools side who fielded another Rams loan player, Kwaku Oduroh, at right-back.

Brown scored his first goal with a header before then hitting a sublime finish, dinking the ball over the keeper befoe seeing it go in off the post as Pools fell apart in the second half.

It was a memorable night for Heed, who are chasing glory on two fronts. Rob Elliot’s side are in the hunt for promotion as well as a place at Wembley in the FA Trophy final.

Brown is helping lead the charge and has now scored seven goals in what is beocming a terrific loan spell for the teenager.
