A HISTORIC Derby mansion with a wealth of history is set to go under the hammer next month after more than 90 years of operating as a social club.

Evington Club, which operated as a men’s-only club from 1931, has been listed by SDL Property Auctions with a guide price of £350,000.

The property is described by the auctioneers as an “imposing Victorian mansion” and houses a huge 4,000 square feet of floor space.

The Derby Telegraph reported in 1931 that the club had been formed as a non-political and non-sectarian club.

Evington Club made the perfect home for the new club, just a few years after it served as a hospital for wounded soldiers during the First World War.

The property lies off Stenson Road, near Normanton Park, and has easy access to the A38 with further road network connections and business centres.

A statement from SDL Property Auctions read: “A rare freehold opportunity to acquire an imposing Victorian mansion, extending to approximately 4,000 square feet, situated on a private corner plot site of just under 0.5 acres or thereabouts.

“It offers significant potential for residential or commercial use subject to obtaining the usual planning consent. Outside there is a driveway to the side with a coach house incorporating two garages with two further storage rooms.

“There is a large tarmacadam car park with well-kept formal gardens with a wide range of specimen trees that offer a certain degree of privacy.”

The property is being sold at The National Property Auction on Thursday, April 25, with the auction due to commence at 9am.
