WHAT CAMERA, LENS AND SETTINGS DID YOU USE TO CAPTURE THIS STUNNING SHOT?
This was shot on a Nikon D610 with a 50mm f1.8 lens at 1/1600, f8, ISO 500 to get a slightly grainy retro feel.
HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON THE COMPOSITION?
We had done some natural-light shots in the hotel room in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and afterwards decided to wander around outside. Shannon, the model, suggested the roof of the car park and we got a great view of the hills in the desert in the background.
CAN YOU EXPLAIN A BIT MORE ABOUT THE TECHNIQUES YOU USED TO CAPTURE IT?
The light was a little hazy being the middle of November and I didn’t want to pose the model up too much, so I just suggested walking towards me, a little like on a catwalk. Having the sun behind off to an angle gave a great angle for the shadow to lead into the shot, especially with Shannon just off centre and showing the signage as part of the shot.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT THE IMAGE?
I love the shot in that it’s just so simple, in both execution and finished look, yet still seems powerful. Shannon has a confident look about her, yet wearing edgy clothing.
