“SOMETIMES THE BEST LIGHT IS TO BE FOUND WHEN THERE ACTUALLY ISN’T VERY MUCH LIGHT AVAILABLE AT ALL”
We say it all the time – well, I know I certainly do, at least – photography is all about light. Yes, it’s a cliché, but that’s because, for the most part, it’s very true. Of course, other aspects of photography play a big role in what you are able to achieve – composition, storytelling and creativity, to name but a few, are all hugely important. Generally speaking, though, the better the quality of the light, the better the photo. But quality and quantity are completely different things, and sometimes the best light is to be found when there actually isn’t very much light available at all. That’s why the ability to take great photos in low light is very important. We’ve addressed this with the main feature in this issue, which looks at landscapes, astro and cityscapes. Turn to p34 of the magazine to begin reading it.
Elsewhere this issue, Simon Roy has looked at photographing birds from hides, covering all the skills and techniques required to master this challenging subject matter. Turn to p48 of the magazine.
Meanwhile, Ewen Bell has put together an indepth guide to the easily overlooked craft of food photography. His expert advice will have you wondering why you’ve never before explored the creative possibilities it offers. Head to p64 to read it.
We’ve also got shooting tutorials, interviews with leading professionals, an in-depth career guide, product reviews and industry news to keep you abreast of the latest developments, and to help inform your future kit purchases.
We would still love to see your own images of course, so please upload them to our Facebook page at WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/DIGITALPHOTOGRAPHERUK.
