FLUORINE COATINGS

Not all lens coatings have a direct image-quality function – newer lenses sometimes feature fluorine or similar surface coatings, which have anti-static or dust and water-repellent properties.

These reduce contaminant accumulation and make it easier to remove these without smearing or scratching. Lenses may not have these features in the name but will be more likely on pro-branded models, such as Canon’s L series or Tamron’s SP (Special Performance) range.
