Flange distance or depth is the distance between the position at which the lens is mounted on a camera and the sensor plane. This varies between camera systems and must be considered when adapting lenses. If an incorrect lenscamera pairing occurs, the rear of the lens may protrude into the camera, causing damage to moving parts.
