Dumfries Museum is hosting activities for Guid Nychburris this year.

The museum has a small display in the foyer of Guid Nychburris artefacts, including the Cornet’s sash from the first event in 1932, original artworks and programmes, and a Queen of the South crown and sceptre.

These will be on display until the end of June 2024.

The museum is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 2pm to 5pm and admission is free.

In addition, museums officer Tom Hughes is hosting The Dumfries of Robert Burns walking tour on Tuesday, June 11, starting at the Old Bridge House museum on Devorgilla Bridge at 7pm.

All are welcome to join in. It is free and no need to book – just turn up.

It will be a chance to explore the town in the footsteps of the Bard, taking in surviving buildings and places where Burns lived and worked. It will conclude at his final resting place at the mausoleum in St Michael’s kirkyard.

The walk will last 90 minutes and includes some steps.

On Thursday, June 13, at 7pm, there is also a free event at Dumfries Museum called Tales from Medieval Times.

Celebrating Robert the Bruce’s 750th anniversary year, join Tom as he shares tales from his times with stories of foolish kings, saints, travellers, tricksters and pilgrims.

All the stories were enjoyed in medieval times, and are suitable for adults and older children. No need to book, just turn up.
