UNIVERSAL MONSTERS: THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON LIVES #1

There’s still a lot of love for the classic horror movies produced by Universal Pictures in the 30s, 40s and 50s.

The movies’ enduring popularity saw them dubbed and marketed as the Universal Monsters. One of the famous line-up, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, starts its own comic run this week.

Set years after the events of the original film, journalist Kate Marsden hunts for a serial killer in the heart of the Amazon, but is about to encounter more than she bargained for.

Written by Dan Watters, with art by Dave Stewart, The Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives #1 is out now, priced £4.90. Look out for variant covers.

STAR WARS: DARTH MAUL BLACK, WHITE & RED #1

Darth Maul gets the black, white and red treatment from Marvel in this new miniseries.

It’s been 25 years since Maul made his debut in The Phantom Menace and this comic builds on the Sith Lord’s mythology.

It follows what happens when he’s sent to investigate the fate of a prison ship that was transporting members of a cult known as the Final Occultation.

Darker and bloodier than ever, this is Star Wars tale dips its toes into the horror realm.

As the name suggests, the only colours used are black, white and red – and they are used to incredible effect.

Star Wars: Darth Maul: Black, White & Red #1 is out now, priced £4.90 with variant covers, like the one pictured.

DAREDEVIL #8

It’s a very special Daredevil issue this month as Marvel marks 60 years of The Man Without Fear.

There’s a dragnet closing around Matt Murdock, with police on both sides of the law hunting him. But something even more vicious, with a deep connection to Matt’s very soul, is hunting his friends.

This special oversized issue of Daredevil #8 is out now, priced £9. Variant covers include a Frank Miller cover, at prices up to £29.99.
