Swan Inn re-opens after quick closure

Four days of mystery at Eaglesham’s watering hole

- Mark Pirie

Eaglesham residents were left confused last week as the Swan Inn shut down - before it opened again under new owners last week.

Last Wednesday the Swan Inn, which has been at the centre of the village for nearly 200 years, shut it’s doors suddenly.

However, it emerged that new owners had shut up shop for a few days to get the building set up.

The new management took to social media on Friday to announce that they would be opening up again with bar access.

Now the pub is fully open for food and have the card machines working.

The pub has stood at the centre of the community since 1832 and was recently put on the market at a value of around £25,000.

A spokesman for the pub told the News: “We were shut for four days and everything is getting up and running now.”

On social media, the Eaglesham public were delighted to have the long standing pub back open in time for the weekend.

Ruth Stannage posted to the Swan Inn Facebook stating: “We were very worried!

“We are so pleased to hear that you are open.”

Polly McGhee was keen to visit once again, as she said: “Brilliant news, see you very soon!”

“Fantastic news,” added a happy Suzy Merchant.

East Renfrewshire MP Kirsten Oswald welcomed the change, adding: “The unannounced closure raised concerns among residents as the Swan has long been at the heart of the Eaglesham community. I wish the new owners well as they take over the reins of this vibrant community pub.”
