Feeling let down by council

-

Dear Editor I feel I have to write to the East Kilbride News about the state of some facilities in Chapelton.

South Lanarkshire Council were contracted to build a new play area for the children of Chapelton, which is great.

The only problem is the ground works surrounding the play area were never finished.

During wet periods it is virtually impossible to get to the park as the area around it is flooded, I have seen children edging their way along a wire fence to stop their feet getting wet.

Now after a good period of fine weather South Lanarkshire Council seem to have stopped cutting the grass on the main play park adjacent to the play area.

There are goal posts for the older boys to play football, but the grass around it is up to their knees which makes it impossible to play on.

I have also seen horses galloping around the field.

When I pointed out they were not allowed to gallop they told me they had been given permission from SLC to do so.

Is it SLC’s policy to let the grass grow on the park and allow horses to gallop on it?

If so, the park will soon be an overgrown quagmire as more and more riders feel it is okay to do so.

Although SLC has invested in the play park it seems it is at the expense of all other amenities surrounding it. John Carrell, Chapelton, via email
