LEAP volunteer team treated to tea
Lightburn Elderly Association Project (LEAP) hosted a special ‘Vintage Film and Afternoon Tea’ themed event for their volunteers to celebrate Volunteers’ Week.
Volunteers, including East Kilbride folk, watched the film ‘Casablanca’ and were t hen treated to a vintage afternoon tea at Blantyre Community Hall.
Afterwards there were raffle prizes and a game of bingo.
Cake sand other goodies were kindly donated by the Co-operative Halfway and Rut her glen, Tunnocks, Aldi Ruth er glen, Morris ons Cambuslang, Waitrose Newton Mearns and Greggs Cambuslang.
Volunteers Week is coordinated by Volunteer Scotland and is celebrated by voluntary organisations across the country to recognise the contribution that volunteers make to UK society.
The day was attended by befriending and handy person volunteers from the Hands On Project.
The day was well received by all – one befriender volunteer said: “A very big thank you all for a lovely afternoon. The film, tea, bingo and raffle was excellent and so enjoyable.”
Bill Lawson, Hands On Project Manager for East Kilbride, said: “Thank you to all of our volunteers who give up their time throughout the year.
“Thank you also to the organisations who made donations and made our volunteer thank you event possible, in particular to Waitrose Newton Mearns who sent some staff along on the day to help out.”
LEAP runs a variety of projects for older people in the community including learning and leisure classes for people over 50 and the Hands On Project which consists of a befriending and handy person service.
The charity most recently launched the R:evolve Recycle project in 2015 which aims to reduce carbon emissions by encouraging swapping and reuse of clothes.
