What do you think of Euro 2016 so far?

Reaction to action on and off the pitch

- Mark Pirie

It was supposed to be a festival of football as France holds Europe’s top football tournament this summer.

As the goals have been flying in, the action off the pitch has grabbed the headlines with clashes between rival fan groups, including riots after the final whistle in England’s draw with Russia.

We took to the streets to see what the people of East Kilbride thought of Euro 2016 so far.

England supporter Peter Hindley (70), from the Village, was enjoying the tournament so far, but condemned the violent scenes.

He told the News: “There have been some good games so far.

“There is no place for the violence though, the Russian fans don’t seem like they have actually gone to watch the games just to fight.”

Shopper Gilbert Thomson (66) said: “I enjoyed watching the Iceland and Portugal game.

“That Ronaldo needs to stop being stroppy, he walked straight off the pitch and couldn’t give Iceland any credit.”

Raymond Thomson was enjoying the tournament so far, adding: “There hasn’t been as many goals as you would think, games have been really tight.”

June Elder (69), from Westwood, slammed the actions of some fans in France, telling the News: “Football isn’t even important to some of these fans, they are just there for trouble.

“Scotland fans wouldn’t act like that.”
