Chrissie does it old school for 101th birthday

-

East Kilbride pensioner Christina Mann was thrilled to go back to school to celebrate turning 101.

Last year, the News told how the centenarian was in a fizz as she celebrated her 100th birthday with her favourite tipple — IRN-BRU.

Marking another incredible milestone this year, Acorn Park Care Home, where Chrissie has been a resident for the past five years, treated her to a special day out at Scotland Street School, which she attended as a young girl.

Mandy McGloin, activites coordinator at Acorn Park, said:“Chrissie is 101 years old and she still remembered the school.

“She thoroughly enjoyed her trip and told everyone that she used to attend Scotland Street School and that her granny used to have the newsagents across the road.

“Chrissie had a lovely day which ended with fish and chips for all.”

One of 10 children, seven brothers and three sisters, Chrissie was born in Glasgow.

She trained as a seamstress, working for a leading Glasgow-based company.

After marrying David, the couple settled happily Calderwood where they raised their daughter, Elizabeth.

Chrissie is now a very proud gran to Ian and Rod McNeil, great gran to Rebecca, Victoria, Roseanne and Andrew and great great gran to Emily and Gabriella.

Apart from enjoying a glass of IRN-BRU, Chrissie said her favourite hobby was housework, although she also enjoyed holidays, making clothes for the family including her daughter’s wedding dress and the family’s christening gowns.
