Boardwalk repair fund
Dear Editor
Thank you for the recent coverage of the devastating fire at Langlands Moss LNR.
Since the fire, the Friends of Langlands Moss LNR have been busy examining different ways in which we can raise approximately £30,000 to repair the boardwalk.
It is doubtful if we will qualify for any grants as this installation was paid from grants and became a capital asset for South Lanarkshire Council. Unfortunately SLC policy is not to insure assets such as the boardwalk due to the high cost of premiums.
This means that we are now back in the position of fundraising to replace the damaged boardwalk. We have already set up a fund raising page: - https://www.gofundme.com/27t7mng and this has raised over £1200 already.
My heartfelt thanks go to all who have donated already to this fund. I would also like to thank those who have given direct monetary donations to us. If every person in East Kilbride gave us £1 then we could have the boardwalk repaired very soon.
We have written to our local councillors and MSPs asking for support and we have an event planned for October 8 in the Murray Owen Centre. This event will be an evening of traditional Scottish/Irish folk style music and will be family friendly. Full details of ticket costs, times, etc will be confirmed soon.
During the summer we will carry on with our normal volunteering tasks and the very popular Batman and Mothin evening will go ahead in September as usual.
We would like to ask the people of East Kilbride and especially those who use Langlands Moss to help us in any way they can. We can only do this with their support. Maureen Potter, Chairperson, FOLM LNR
