The first benefactor of the East Kilbride International Sports Trust received £700. Ten-year-old Jacqueline Simpson from East Kilbride Trampoline Club accepted the cheque from Sports Council Chairman, H. Gordon Marshall. It was to allow her to participate in the World Age Group Trampoline Championships in America.
Further cut-backs in services were set for East Kilbride. The Scottish Office told the District Council to reduce their expenditure by half a million pounds on top of cuts already made.
Singer Frankie Vaughn took time off from cabaret appearances to visit the west of Scotland Showjumping Festival held in East Kilbride.

The shock cancellation of a charity football match at the Showpark could have denied Sport Aid another cash boost from East Kilbride. The Greenhills Select vs EK Teachers select was called off due to an unplayable pitch.
Angry trade unionists condemned the Development Corporation for portraying EK as a low-pay, low unionisation town and launched a campaign to increase membership and pay.

Angry St Leonards residents were fuming over the council’s apparent lack of interest in their plight. The householders from Glen Nevis were outraged when council officials began uprooting bramble bushes and hedges from outside their front doors.
A local boy who was so horrified by the Dunblane tragedy he handed in his toy guns and touched the hearts of the nation. The Murray’s Callum Martin amazed police officers in EK when he walked into the station and handed in 10 of his prized toys .
