32 WARM WELCOME Fun-filled day shows how much they care
Open day success
Visitors were invited to step back in time when Forefaulds care home in East Kilbride held a nostalgic World War II themed day.
Dressing up as the famous land girls and RAF pilots, the staff threw themselves into the spirit of things as they opened the doors to celebrate National Care Home Open Day.
The theme continued and the care home was truly transformed when an Anderson Shelter was built at the entrance to the home in Calderwood.
And resident Janet McKenzie raised more than a few smiles when she dressed up as war-time Prime Minister Winston Churchill for the day.
Another highlight of the funpacked day involved residents, visitors and staff, enthusiastically taking part in a world record attempt.
Embrace Group, which runs Forefaulds, teamed up with Oomph! – a social enterprise which is dedicated to enhancing the health and wellbeing of older adults.
The challenge thrown down was for care homes across the country to take part in a national synchronised exercise class on the day.
With 1035 people having participated in the National Care Home Open Day Oomph! World Record challenge, there were celebrations all round when the previous record of 481 participants was well and truly beaten.
Julie Harkess, home manager, was delighted with how their day had gone in East Kilbride.
She said: “A great time was had by all at Forefaulds’ celebrations for National Care Home Open Day this year. Our residents had great fun getting into the World War II theme and welcoming friends, family and members of the community through our doors to join in the fun.”
