Carmunnock

Green Belt update The major news story in Carmunnock for some time now has been Glasgow City Council’s proposal to re-classify the land behind Cameron Crescent from green belt status, to land suitable for housing development. The Scottish Government appointed local reporter Timothy Brain, because of the objections from local residents and the community council. The reporter has decided that Glasgow City Council’s proposal should go ahead and supports the removal of some land from the Green Belt and a limited housing development on the land behind Cameron Crescent. He has, however, come out firmly against any proposal to extend the site to enable more houses to be built. It is now likely that a full planning application by house builders Stuart Milne will be submitted to build around 50 houses. All objectors have been informed of the reporter’s findings, and the full details are available to view on the community council website. There will be the normal community council meeting on Monday, July 6, in the Castlemilk Hall, and this is open to the public. It is anticipated that the decision will be discussed at length during this meeting. There may be the possibility of a special public meeting so that the community council can report on their strategy after this decision. If you want to make your feelings on the matter known, then you can ask any member to represent you at the next meeting.
