Facing jail for causing death

An East Kilbride motorist is facing jail after pleading guilty to causing a biker’s death by careless driving.

Graeme McLaughlin was involved in a fatal collision w i t h mo t o r c y c l i s t J a me s L a mb e r t o n t h e A 8 2 2 i n Perthshire in July 2014.

The 62-year-old suffered massive blood loss after being hurtled through the air.

The biker was killed on the same stretch of road where he had earlier been hurt in a crash.

Tragedy struck three years after Mr Lambert had escaped with a broken hand after being hit by a retired minister on the A822.

McLaughlin will learn his fate next month.

The fatal collision occurred between Muthill and Crieff on July 11, 2014. Mr Lambert’s BMW motorcycle was struck “full force” as McLaughlin overtook a 4x4 in the opposite lane.

The dad hit the windscreen of McLaughlin’s Ford Fiesta before being propelled over the car.

As the victim landed in a ditch, McLaughlin got out his vehicle looking “visibly shaken”.

Mr Lambert’s GP hap p e n e d t o b e n e a r t h e crash scene and immediatel­y raced to help.

The biker was r ushed to hospital, but never recovered after going into cardiac arrest.

This was caused by “massive i nternal and external blood loss”.

McLaughlin had initially faced an allegation of causing death by dangerous driving before prosecutor­s accepted his guilty plea to the reduced charge.

Sentencing was deferred at High Court in Glasgow for background reports.
