Celine is a Miss Scotland finalist Teen model hopes to take the country crown

A former East Kilbride ice skating champion is in the r unning t o be crowned Miss Scotland 2016.

Model Celi ne Robertson i s calling on her hometown to back her bid to take the title and raise awareness of a charity close to her heart.

The 19-year-old blonde beauty, who models for Glasgow-based Superior Model Management after following in the footsteps of her stunning model sister Sophie (22), is through to the grand final in the city’s Raddison Blu hotel on August 26.

Beating off stiff competitio­n f r o m hu n d r e d s o f h o p e f u l s , Celine made the final 13 after impressing Miss Scotland judges Janis-Sue Smith (fashion guru, s t y l i s t and owner of Catwalk Academy), Mhairi Fergusson (reigning Miss Scotland), Frank Pilkington (psychic astrologer) a nd Holl y Ber r y ( model a nd student) at the inter view heat held l ast month at ‘ 29’, Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow.

The former pupil of Calderglen High and Halfmerke Primar y, said: “I was inspired to pursue modelling af t er watching my sister model over the years.

“I hav e model l e d f o r we l l known companies such as Honda and I absolutely love working with and meeting influentia­l and inspiring people in the industry who have made me the person who I am today.

“The f i nali s t s group re veal s hoot came out i n a national newspaper last Sunday which was so exciting – I couldn’t wait to tell all my friends and family my big secret!

“I am so very excited and honoured to be spending the next couple of weeks taking part in fun challenges with the other finalists.”

Stewartfie­ld teenager Celine, who also works as a retail sales assistant, is already a well known f a c e a mo n g t h e i c e s k a t i n g community.

Pulling on her skates at the tender age of eight, Celine trained at East Kilbride Ice Rink and was c r ow n e d S c o t t i s h c ha mpion for the East Kilbride Ice Figure Skating Club in 2009.

Ce l i n e t o l d t h e Ne ws t hat although her main focus is now modelling, she still has a “huge passion” for the sport.

A re qui re ment of t he Fa k e Bake-sponsored competitio­n is for finalists to fundraise for a chosen charity and Celine’s is one that is particular­ly dear to her.

She added: “The competitio­n has offered me a great opportunit­y and platform to raise awareness for a charity that I feel so passionate about.

“I have chosen t o t ake part in challengin­g events to raise money for Diabetes UK.

“This charity is very close to my heart as my boyfriend was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 10 and my aunt has recently just been diagnosed with diabetes.

“Their stories truly inspired me t o raise money f or such a deserving cause.

“Over the next couple of weeks I will be fundraisin­g for t hi s c har i t y by t aki ng par t i n challengin­g events and fitness challenges t hat you can keep up t o dat e on my Ju s t Gi v i ng page.

“I have been overwhelme­d and so very grateful for all the support everyone has given me so far. I have now raised over 60 per cent of my £1000 target which I very much appreciate.”

Celine’s proud mum Yvonne has high hopes for her daughter’s c ha nc e s i n t he c o mpeti t i o n, describing Celine as “beautiful inside and out”.

Yvonne, a fitness instructor, said: “This is such a great opportunit­y and will be a brilliant experience for Celine.

“We are all just so proud of her. She is a beautiful girl inside and out.

“She’ll go far in whatever she does as she has her feet firmly on the ground.”

Celine added: “Being a figure skater and model has taught me t hat hard work, commitment a n d d e d i c a t i o n i s e x t r e mel y i mportant t o s ucceed i n a ny career or position that I may be in.

“If I had the opportunit­y t o be crowned Miss Scotland 2016 I would use my position very wisely raising money and awareness f or c har i t i e s s uch as Diabetes UK who care and support for people less fortunate that myself.

“I am very humble, ambitious and relatable. These are all qualities that a Scottish a mbassador a nd ro l e model should represent and I would relish the opportunit­y.”
