Crushed to death in forklift accident
Investigation underway
A d a u g h t e r ’s h e a r t b r e a k i n g t r i b u t e h a s b e e n l e f t by t h e roadside where a man was tragically killed in a forklift accident.
Mohammed Anwar was cr ushed to death in the horror road crash on Glenburn Road in College Milton Industrial Estate on Friday morning.
The 52-year-old dad, from Thornliebank, suffered fatal injuries when the electric forklift he was driving clipped a pavement and toppled over, trapping him inside.
Floral tributes have since been laid at the scene including a heartbreaking message left by Mr Anwar’s daughter Hirahh which reads : “Love you daddy and I am sorry, your princess Hirahh.”
Fire crews battled to save Mr Anwar using hydraulic lifting equipment and air bags in an attempt to pull him from the wreckage but he died at the scene.
The road was closed for several hour s whi l e p o l i c e c a r r i e d o ut t he i r investigations.
Local reports suggested that Mr Anwar was an employee of removals and self storage firm Abra Storage on Glenburn Road.
However, when the News contacted the company we were told he did not work for the firm but was one of their clients who used the storage facility.
The manager of Abra Storage failed to respond to our request for a comment in response to the incident.
A report on the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
Officers from Police Scotland’s Road Policing department in Motherwell are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
E n q u i r i e s c a r r i e d o u t s o f a r h av e revealed there were several people around at the time of the incident and officers are appealing to people who were in the area at the time to contact them.
An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances and anyone with information is asked to call officers a Motherwell’s Road Policing Unit on 101.
