Strathaven in line for new comedy club

Stand Out Comedy organisers spread their wings Call for more organ donors

The lads behind the Stand Out Comedy club are set to open the doors to a Strathaven Comedy Club later this year.

The Stand Out Comedy shows have enjoyed a successful first year and host regular nights at The Union in East Kilbride, and organisers David Hopkins and Darren Thomson are hoping to roll out the fun elsewhere in Lanarkshir­e.

The first stop on that new tour will be at the Old Mill studios in Strathaven in November with the aim of making it a regular night in town.

The debut event on Saturday, November 26, will be hosted by Chris Forbes, who plays PC Charlie McIntosh in the BBC comedy Scot Squad.

Joining him are top comedians Gareth Waugh, Tony Sloan and Keir McAllister who picked up two awards at the 2016 Scottish Comedy awards.

While David and Stand Out par t ner Darren are s t i l l planning more events in East Kilbride, including a new show at t he Cr ut herl and Hotel i n September, they are delighted to be able to bring the laughs to Strathaven.

David told the News: “Ho p e f u l l y i t w i l l b e c o me another monthly event like our East Kilbride show.

“We are tr ying to grow our nights and have a f ew more around Lanarkshir­e so when we c ame across t he t heatre i n St rat haven Town Mill we thought we had to host an event there!

“The v e nue i s a f a nt a s t i c small, old style theatre that’s perfect for an evening of comedy.

“We are hoping that there will be a good turnout and that we can continue to bring top comedy to Strathaven.”

Tickets are priced at £10 and are available online from www. seetickets.com. Residents i n Clydesdale have been encouraged to sign up to become an organ donor.

Clydesdale MSP Aileen Campbell a n d E a s t Ki l b r i d e, St r a t hav e n a n d Lesmahagow Lisa Campbell have called on constituen­ts living in the region to join the NHS Organ Donor Register.

This follows the launch of a new TV publicity campaign by NHS Scotland.

SNP MSP Campbell said: “This is an important campaign – one which will help save lives in Clydesdale and across Scotland.

“Si g ni ng up t o t he Orga n Donor Register could not be easier – and I would encourage my constituen­ts to spare the two minutes that it takes to sign up.

“The We Need Everybody campaign i s about dr i vi ng home t he f act t hat everybody has it in them to save a life.”

Dr Lisa Cameron added: “The Organ Donor Register is a vital resource for our NHS – and with 540 people currently waiting for a life-saving transplant, it is as vital a time as ever to sign up and help save a life.”
