Sent to Coventry... team return with 10 trophies

East Kilbride Ice Figure Skating Club in great form

Yo u n g s t e r s f r o m E a s t Kilbride Ice Figure Skating Club were in top form at t he Coventr y Open l ast we e k a s 1 0 o f t h e 1 1 skaters in action returned home with a trophy.

The club, who are currently ‘ homeless’ due t o re novation works on East Kilbride Ice Rink, produced a series of fine routines across varying age groups to leave their mark on the championsh­ips.

First up, s even- year- old Lia Wilson claimed first place in the beginner eight years and under category. Lia has been fantastic s i n c e s h e s t a r t e d c o mpet i n g just last year and since January she has notched up a total of six trophies (five first places and one second place). Also competing in Lia’s category was Chloe Kidson, who f i nished t hird, and Kiera Tunnicliff­e, who was the youngest competitor and finished seventh with a personal best score.

EKIFSC then took the top spot in both level two categories. The 11-years-and-under category was won by Zofia Bengsch and the 12-and-over categor y was won by Hannah Tunnicliff­e.

Next up was Rebecca Geddes, who claimed third place in the Level Five 11-and-under group. She a l s o ga i ned t he re qui re d score t o qualify f or t he British Championsh­ips in December, taking the number of EK skaters who have qualified so far to six.

Meanwhile, Tayl or McLeod t ook t he t op s pot i n t he L evel Five 12-and-over group and also gained a new personal best score.

Ab i g a i l S t e w a r t a n d Ho l l y Freeman both took third place in Level 6 and Level 7.

Coach Yvonne Cameron said: “We are delighted that the skaters continue to do so well, despite all the disruption they have faced.”
