What do you think of the new Prime Minister?
Theresa May in the hot seat
Last week saw a quick resolution to the issue of a new Prime Minister after David Cameron officially stepped down from the top job at Westminster.
As Theresa May moved into 10 Downing Street, the News took to the streets of East Kilbride to see what the public thought of the new leader of the country and Tory party.
Susie McLean (60), from Sandford, stated that she was relieved about the result, feeling that some of the other options were much worse: “I think she was the right person for the job, especially when you look at some of the other candidates who put their name forward.
“I believe she has all the attributes to make a good Prime Minister, but time will tell.”
East Kilbride shopper Tracy McInally told the News she was happy to see a female leader of the country, and told the News of her personal reasons for liking the new leader.
“She has Type 1 diabetes, and so does my son,” she said. “So I just think she is a really good role model.” Beryl Young admitted she had not been following the leadership race closely – but was happy to see so many women leading.
Beryl said: “Clinton is in the running in America, and Germany and Scotland all have female leaders. “Times are changing.” Ian Smith (70), from Hairmyres, added: “I think she could be very capable.
“She was quiet during Brexit, but hopefully she can bring the country together.”
