Trial was set for a man accused of sending abusive text messages and making a threatenin­g call to his exgirlfrie­nd.

Bryan Wilson (36), of 102 Westwood Square, pled not guilty to using intimidati­ng and offensive language and making threats of violence on July 13 in Westwood Square.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court trial was set for October 4 with a interim hearing due to take place on September 8. A heroin addict has been locked up for 11 months for committing a string of offences while on bail to fund his drug habit.

Serial offender Brian McDougall (36) previously admitted shouting, swearing, striking a door and demanding entry into a property at Vernon Bank in East Mains on February 28 Two men have appeared in court charged with a break-in theft in Calderwood.

Leonard Nedd (25) and Thomas Kerr (22), both of Glasgow, made no plea or declaratio­n when they appeared on petition at Hamilton Sheriff Court last Wednesday (July 13).

The pair allegedly stole £250 cash from a property in Canongate, East Kilbride on July 12.

Nedd also faces a charge of possession of an offensive weapon, namely a metal baton.

They were both remanded in custody this year.

He also pleaded guilty to being in possession of a screwdrive­r at Dalrymple Drive, with the intention to commit a theft, on December 11 and being in possession of the Class C drug, diazepam, on the same date.

And McDougall went on to plead guilty to stealing a quantity of meat from Marks and Spencers on December 1.

All the offences were committed while McDougall – formerly of East Mains but now of 73 Melville Park , Calderwood – was on bail.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard on Thursday how McDougall had fallen into offending after not being allowed to see his children.

His solicitor said he had made attempts to turn his life around after periods spent living on the streets and was now on methadone in an attempt to kick his habit and living at a stable address with a new partner.

However, Sheriff Douglas Brown pointed out the fact that McDougall had been in trouble since he was previously released from custody and sentenced him to a total of 11 months in prison.

The sentence was backdated to July 11.
