Pokemon game features East Kilbride landmarks
New app encourages players to get out and about
Have you spotted people around town holding their phones and pointing at random landmarks? Well, it’s all part of the latest gaming craze...
Pokemon Go fever has taken over East Kilbride with the launch of the latest instalment in the franchise taking in locations from across the town.
The app encourages players to go outside and visit various locations to unlock content and catch the creatures, known as Pokemon.
The game was only officially released in the UK last week, but the East Kilbride News Facebook page was packed with excited trainers and players who discussed some of the locations.
Firstly, if you pop down to the East Kilbride Shopping Centre, The Plaza has some unlockable prizes for Pokemon Go players.
In the Village, Spice restaurant and the Spikes at the roundabout near the shopping centre both give trainers a reward.
If you are popping in for pint at the Bonnie Prince Charlie it is also listed as a place to collect eggs and pokeballs – as well as St Leonards Library just across the road.
The Showpark, East Kilbride Community Football Club, Athletic Club and 1st East Kilbride Scout Hall all are listed by the Pokemon Go creators as places to visit.
James Hamilton Heritage Park and the Museum of Rural Life are also listed as great stops for collectors by users online.
The most common Pokemon Hot spots spotted in town include Drowzee, Pidgey, Magikarp, Rattata and Eevee.
However, if you have spotted an Arbok, Arcanine, Aerodactyl, Blastoise, or Snorlax, you are one of the lucky ones, as they are listed among the most rare.
Nicola Brown joined the discussion on Facebook, and said: “There’s sooo many at the bus station it’s great!”
Rachel Reid was also delighted, posting on social media: “I’m all over this.”
Stevan Harris added: “Clearly taking over my life.”
