On the Cheviots trail

-

The Cheviot Hills straddling Scotland and England in the Borders was the stomping ground for Duncanrig Ramblers walks at the weekend.

Both walks started Primesidehill and followed the line of the Curr Burn passing a number of farms before climbing up to join the lower path of the Pennine way.

From here the high walkers carried on to climb to the top of the Schil, which at 601m, is the eighth highest summit of the Cheviots.

From the top, the group then followed the high track route of the Pennine Way, first to Black Hag (549m) then Steer Rig then finishing with White Law (430m) before descending down and following the path into Kirk Yetholm and the awaiting coach.

The alternate walkers followed the lower track of the Pennine Way, following the line of the Halter Burn.

A country lane then led them to Kirk Yetholm, the end of the Penine Way, and the waiting coach.

The Pennine Way is a UK National Trail with the majority of the trail south of the Scottish border in. The trail runs 267 miles from Edale, in the northern Derbyshire Peak District, north through the Yorkshire Dales and the Northumberland National Park and ends at Kirk Yetholm, just inside the Scottish border.

Both groups then enjoyed a social hour in Kelso.

The club’s next outing is to on Sunday, July 31 and member can book places at the meeting on July 25.
