Seven wicket league win

-

After celebrating their Rowan Cup win in midweek, East Kilbride Cricket Club carried their fine form into Saturday’s league clash with Kelburne, producing another seven wicket win.

It took 3.1 overs and 11 runs for EK to get their first wicket and what a first wicket it was.

Stewart Kampman enforcing the outside edge and Umair Saeed diving down to his left, somehow scooped the ball up before hitting the ground for wicket keeper, Craig Smith, to eventually take the simplest of catches.

A catch that will surely last long in the memories of the players. Then a remarkable scene unfolded. Between Kampman and Khan they took five wickets in three overs for only only runs, leaving Kelburne in a awful mess at 15/5.

Eventually Kelburne managed to string a partnership together but when Umair Saeed broke the partnership, another collapse occurred as Saeed and Moneeb Iqbal ensured EK bowled out Kelburne for 108. EK’s bowlers ended on the following figures: Kampman(3-13), Khan(2-18), Saeed(3-23) and Iqbal(2-0).

The chase was always going to be easier for EK but a good foundation was needed to prevent any surprises.

Opening batsman Smith made a good quick fire 25 to get EK going.

Iqbal continued his good form of late with a superb 56 not out to take EK home and grant them a well deserved seven wicket win.

With league leaders Ferguslie losing to Uddingston on Saturday, EK have kept alive their slim title hopes.

Focus now switches to Saturday when EK host Stenhousemuir at Torrance House from noon.
