Clark puts Rio snub behind her

-

Trampoline star Pam Clark won’t fight her exclusion from the British Olympic team – despite support from the town’s MP and MSP.

Last week the News revealed Pam had been denied a spot in Rio, despite being British champion and beating the only two female trampoline athletes selected for the Games on her way to that title.

The 20-year-old from St Leonards did appeal the decision before it became public last week, but British Gymnastics have stood by their decision.

Member of Parliament Lisa Cameron and Member of the Scottish Parliament, Linda Fabiani, both got in contact with Pam to offer their support, but now Clark, who is first reserve for the Olympics, wishes to put the huge disappointment behind her.

Lisa Cameron said:“I spoke to Pam’s dad to offer my full support to try to progress this issue however Mr Clark said that Pam wishes to accept the decision.

“I would like to congratulate Pam for all of her hard work and all she has achieved and she has made East Kilbride very proud, and I am sure she will go on to achieve her dream.”

Meanwhile, Linda Fabiani admits she Is baffled by Pam’s omission. She said: “To have won the British Trampoline championships, and to be ranked first in Britain, demonstrates she clearly has the talent to represent us at the Rio Olympics, and it is hard to understand why she has not been selected.

“The disappointment must be huge, and no wonder those who care so much about her are angry.

“Pam is a smart and talented young lady with a very bright future. I am sure she will go from strength to strength.”
