Kids snap to it at open day
Fun event raises funds for town play scheme
The Special Needs Adventure Playground (SNAP) play scheme welcomed friends and family to their annual open day.
The group, based in Blacklaw Primary School, set up stalls selling a mix of and treats, including home baking, with a raffle and a guess the weight of the cake competition.
On the day, the youngsters were also able to enjoy sports, art, music and sensory activities – and gave the visitors the chance to join in after enjoying tea and coffee.
They raised over £500 from the open day which will go towards getting the scheme ready for next year.
The East Kilbride group, which has been running in the town for over 20 years, welcome children with additional support needs from across South Lanarkshire for four weeks of fun during the summer months.
This year the SNAP kids have enjoyed trips to the Five Sisters Zoo, various parks and plays areas, and the Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre.
The kids also helped raise money for the play scheme with a sponsored walk around the James Hamilton Heritage Park last week which brought in over £300 for activities and equipment.
Board member Sheila Halford said: “It was a busy afternoon and we were grateful that Linda Fabiani MSP, Lisa Cameron MP and Graham Simpson MSP attended.
“Thanks to everyone for supporting us.”
