Fundraising in store for research charity

-

The Live it for Lee Foundation has been named Sainsbury’s Kingsgate charity partner of the year.

Over the next 12 months big-hearted staff at the store will be raising funds for the charity set up in memory of Lee Jamieson, who was aged just 12 when he lost his battle with leukaemia in August 2014.

Since then, through Live it for Lee, his family, friends and supporters have raised a whopping £75,000 for leukaemia and lymphoma research charity Bloodwise.

And now, with the support of the East Kilbride store, they will continue to raise money to fund research to help find a cure.

Lee’s mum, ElizabethAnne, said they were delighted that people have voted for the foundation to be the store’s new charity of the year.

And the fundraising kicks off with a car boot sale this Sunday, July 31, from 10am till 2pm at Kingsgate.

Pitches, priced at £5 for a car and £8 for a van, are available and can be booked at the store’s customer service desk.

Hopes are high that people will turn out in force to support the event ... and pick up a bargain or two.

Meanwhile, staff at the supermarket had one final task to perform as their fundraising for last year’s charity partner, Lifesavers Scotland, came to a close.

They handed over a cheque for a fantastic £6370 to the volunteer bikers who provide Great partners vital out-of-hours emergency transport for the NHS.

The money will assist them to purchase two new motorbikes to help them carry on with their great work.

Clare Lindsay of the store said: “We had such a lot of fun working with the guys. They are a great team and we were delighted to have raised so much for the charity.

“We are now hoping that we can do the same for Live it for Lee, which is such a worthwhile cause.”
